May Days & Sunshine Ways

home organization Miranda Ferreira April 30, 2025

Hello May:

Sun-Kissed Days, Sweet Breezes & Summertime Peeks in Fernandina Beach & Amelia Island

It's no secret this is my favorite month of the year! There are so many fun and exciting things going on - from Shrimp Festival to the end of school and Memorial Day - and the weather is usually AMAZING! Do remember to bring a light jacket when out near the water for the evenings (they can sometimes be cool), but get ready to enjoy all that is summer in Fernandina.

Mini Home Upgrades That Make a Big Splash

  • Tropical Touches: Add palm prints, breezy linen curtains, or cane accents for that coastal-casual vibe.
  • DIY Herb Garden: Use planters or hanging baskets to grow basil, mint, or rosemary—great for cocktails or home-cooked meals!
  • Refresh the Guest Bath: Swap out towels for summery colors, add a scented candle, and update the mirror or hardware for an instant lift.

Celebrating Mom, Island Style

  • Mother’s Day Brunch: Book a table at a local favorite with outdoor seating, or host your own with fresh flowers and beachy décor.
    • We love Kafe Karibo. No matter where you go, go early -- or try to make reservations!
  • Thoughtful Gifts: Check out local boutiques for handmade jewelry, candles, or spa treats she’ll adore.
    • Twisted Sisters is always a hit for something traditional or whimsical.
  • Beach Picnic: Pack her favorite snacks, a cute blanket, and enjoy a relaxed day in the sunshine.
    • Visit Breakable Hearts and Lux Picnics by Les for a great creation, including desserts! You can order ahead (and online) or walk in.

Let’s Go Outside!

  • Turtle Watch: Nesting season is in full swing—keep an eye out on your beach walks and follow posted guidelines to protect our flippered friends!
    • Head out to Fort Clinch. It is a great spot to find tortoises and a number of other amazing wild life.
  • Sunset Spots: Grab a drink or dinner with a view—May skies are magical.
    • Salt Life and Salty Pelican have some of the best blues (and usually music on the weekends!)
  • Weekend Adventures: Kayak tours, bike rides to Fort Clinch, or a ferry ride to Cumberland Island—take advantage of this gorgeous weather!
    • Kayak Amelia has a great tour, or stop by Super Corsa Cycles on the south end of the island.

 Get Summer-Ready at Home

  • Prep the Grill: Clean it, check your tools, and make a list of your go-to grilling recipes.
    • Ace Hardware has a great selection of accessories. Remember to use sponge or wooden tools, as wire brushes can leave bristles behind.
  • Create a Chill Zone: Add a hammock, outdoor rug, or string lights to turn your patio into a relaxing retreat.
  • Organize the Garage: Before hurricane season, make space for essentials and give it a clean sweep.

Pro Tip: A tidy garage and inviting outdoor space aren’t just great for summer—they can also boost your home’s appeal and value if you’re planning to sell!

Closing Message

May is a gentle reminder to live in the moment—savor the sunshine, celebrate the ones you love, and enjoy every salty breeze and blooming hibiscus. Here’s to memory-making, home-refreshing, and sunshine-chasing all month long. See you around the island!
